It's about intention
We need to retire the idea that code compliance is enough.
It never was. Code compliance tells you the minimum to keep people safe. It says nothing about keeping them engaged, motivated, or coming back.
For too long, "bare minimum" in construction has meant ADA checked, occupancy load met, exits marked. Done.
I want to propose a new minimum. One where a space doesn't just pass inspection, it tells a story. Where people walking in feel something other than indifference.
Where the 8 hours someone spends inside actually feel like 8 hours in a place someone thought about.
This isn't about luxury.
Because here's the business case: nobody raves about a building they tolerate. And developers who want repeat business, referrals, and tenants who renew, need spaces people rave about.
Code compliance is the old minimum. Activating the space is the new one. Which standard are you building to?
